Max is dead-on about the Justice CD; I’ve been bumping it since last July and it still makes it into my morning commute on a regular basis. My favorites are Genesis, Phantom Pt. I & Pt. II. You might recognize Genesis from one of those Cadillac commercials (hopefully that doesn’t ruin the song for you).
If you’re into to Justice, you’d probably enjoy Ratatat as well: They’ve got two LP’s, both of them awesome, and two remix mixtapes, the most recent of which is available on their website for approximately $0. Plus tax. I really want to give you the highlights, but it’s all hot. If you really want a starting point, Wildcat is as good as any other but you should really be listening to the whole thing. Take my word for it.
If you’re here, on a computer, reading a blog, you’ve probably never owned an actual record. This is the typical case, at least in my experience; my first piece of purchased music was on cassette and, like so many of my efforts in life, was made obsolete quickly. With no way to play my New Kids on the Block tape these days, I have only nostalgia for the days when making a mixtape took hours and required flawless execution. I’ve also heard this rumor floating around the internet that there used to be entire stores built solely for housing and selling these records. Crazy stuff, I know. Well, for those curious what the iTunes experience would have been like in 1981, Urban Outfitters has a cool wall mural to make that happen.
It’s a great idea for apartments or dorm rooms where you can’t paint but hate the look of that dingy off-white coat of cheap industrial paint. I’m looking to move in a month or so and I’m pretty sure this is getting thrown up on one of my four walls. $200 gets you in the door and this thing on the wall. When I find a place that sells parachute pants and boomboxes, I’ll let you know.
A friend introduced me to Justice, and after checking out the video above and the one for D.A.N.C.E. I ran out and bought a copy of the album Cross, which I’ve been listening to nonstop ever since. It’s not my usual fare, but it’s fantastic! I feel like they’ve managed to strike the perfect balance between regular, thumping beats and more interesting (but less dance-able) aural adventures. As far as dancing goes, this music makes even a wallflower like me get into it - I’d have no qualms about throwing this entire disc on at a party. Songs like DVNO and D.A.N.C.E. are sure hits, broken up by more experimental tracks like my personal favorite, Stress. (Sorry, no awesome video for that one, just the album cover) I’m not sure what else to say about the disc, except go listen to it! You’ll love it!
Buy Cross from Amazon on CD or as MP3’s using this link and help us cover our hosting costs. It costs you nothing and we’ll love you forever. Promise!

Does your car have a cassette tape player but no MP3 jack? Want to listen to MP3s in the car, but don’t like seeing all those wires associated with having an MP3 player + charger + cassette tape adapter?
Well, why don’t you give this little device a try. It’s an MP3 player that functions both as a standalone unit or as a MP3 player for your cassette deck.

In the past few years, I’ve turned into a pretty serious coffee drinker. And I’ve noticed that all coffee is not equally delicious - the bean is often to blame for bad coffee; either the bean is of inferior quality or the victim of negligent care. Or so most people would have you believe - and if it’s not the source of the bean or it’s care, then it’s the roasting and grinding that’s blamed for bad coffee. But the truth is that the method of coffee preparation has a huge effect on the flavor - terrible coffee can be made from excellent beans. Drip coffee typically has a paper filter that traps oils, giving a lighter, less intense brew than a french press. I like both methods, but the press gives a more interesting brew. I had thought that the french press was the king of coffee preparation, but I’ve recently learned about vacuum coffee-makers, which have a reputation for deliciousness and the appearance of laboratory equipment. (A plus for me!)

I’ve been a fan of GelaSkins for some time now. I think they provide nice scratch protection for your gadgets while having some really cool designs.
They are now shipping two designs from artist Brian Despain. The one pictured above is called The Exchange. The other one offered is The Stranger. Both have this quirky, surreal feel to them. I love ‘em both; now to decide which gadget gets the treatment.
One of the great things about GelaSkins is the originality; I’ve never heard of Brian Despain before, but he’s got some really great art! I’ve sent an email asking about prints and such, as I’d love to have some of his artwork in my home… stay tuned for updates on that.

I caught the second LA showing of the Kanye West Glow in the Dark tour tonight and was very impressed. I knew I would enjoy it because the lineup was solid and the venue nice and new. I was afraid that all the hype would ruin it, though. There’s been a lot of good reviews and I’ve been waiting to see this show since Prince was on Apollonia, since OJ had isotoners. Despite all the hype and having to wade through 17 year old hipsters to get to my seat, the show lives up to all the lofty reviews.

Usually, it seems like Pilar covers all the home and garden stuff here but today I’ve decided to steal a little of her thunder. Why? Simple: I love thunder. Also, just like Pilar, I live in a home too. I have no garden though, so we’ll stay inside for the next 200 words. Anyway, Urban Outfitters has some neat couches that are good looking and functional. The following two couches are more than meets the eye. That is to say that they transform.
They are not robots.

Sure the Ice Cream Ball looks cute, but will it work? The Ice Cream Ball has three steps– fill the outer ball with rock salt and ice, make the ice cream mixture (usually some derivative of cream and sugar) and shake. In Kindergarden, we made butter by passing around milk and shaking it. So, butter, yes, but ice cream? I’m not convinced that it works well or that I would want to eat the ice cream at the end (especially the “ice cream” in this picture). The Ice Cream Ball, for being totally questionable in its performance, is pretty cute and comes in lots of colors. And, it does get some props for trying to create something, not like that lazy Bop-It.
