Incase Slider

I finally found a decent case for my iPhone. I’ve been carrying it caseless for months now, and can attest to the durability of the device: a case is absolutely optional, unless you intend to drop the thing on concrete several times. The glass screen is nearly unscratchable - keys won’t even faze it - and the matte finish on the metal casing hides nicks in a way that the mirrored iPods can only dream about. So why would I want a case at all? In a word: Looks.

Monster Cable Thumbs Down

That’s right. Monster Cable sucks. Let’s try to not get into the highly heated debate of whether or not cables and interconnects in your A/V system can really make a difference, and talk about why Monster Cable sucks as a company.

Odyssey Bag

Silent Revolution, from Los Angeles, makes some great 21st century bags. These bags are also 100% sweatshop free and designed for a sophisticated urbanite. My favorite is the Odyssey Bag. The red string detail, on the front flap of the bag, is placed there by hand and then the bag is quilted stitched over in order to hold the design. Each Odyssey Bag is a unique piece of art.

Apparently, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 gives bad haircuts. Today my brother picked up the Xbox Live Vision Camera when he learned that you could map your face onto a character for Rainbow Six. I of course, was totally in favor of this idea. But it turns out that while the face mapping is actually pretty impressive, as you can see from the pic of my brother above, the hair mapping is pretty lousy. I also did a character of myself, and we both took pictures of what we actually look like for comparison. Load the rest of the post to see those!

Keyport Render

Imagine, all of your keys in a compact, switchblade style key fob. Basically like those nifty VW/Audi keys, only it holds ALL of your keys (well, three six of them)! I’ve been intrigued by the Keyport for a while now, but I haven’t seen anything beyond artist concepts. Well, the folks over at Notcot just got their hands on a pre-production unit. Looks like they are built pretty well.

NTT DoCoMo gets fragrance phone serviceI am green with envy when it comes to the Japanese and their cellular devices. One of these days I’m going to flip on the news and see them zooming to work on hoverboards all nonchalantly, like they’ve had it for years. This time they’re not breaking any data speed records or showing off any TV equipped phones. No, that’s old hat for the land of the rising sun. This time, their phones are making smells.

Black Keys - Attack and Release album coverI don’t think anyone familiar with their larger body of work is surprised, but the new Black Keys album is fantastic. I’ll keep this short because instead of listening to me you should be opening iTunes and buying it now. Or you could go to Amazon if you prefer those impossible-to-open jewel cases. And if it’s currently downloading, stick around, read something Max wrote, he’s usually pretty entertaining.

Shine A Light - Buddy Guy

I wasn’t expecting much from Shine a Light, the new Rolling Stone’s concert movie. Why not you ask? Well, first of all when I pay for a concert I go to a concert hall, not a movie theater. Second, I go for the “live” musical experience that brings with it an energy that usually cannot be captured on tape.

I got over my snootiness pretty quickly when I realized the brilliance of concert movies: giving the audience an intimate look at a live performance. You are able to see things about a concert up-close and personal, which is something you can’t get unless you’re willing to shell out the big bucks for front row seats. The film was directed by Martin Scorsese, who does a great job in bringing the concert to life on film. Scorsese goes beyond simply putting a concert on the big screen and matches archival footage with specific musical scenes which gives some historical perspective to the Rolling Stones. I found the best use of this footage was in pairing an interview with a band member and then focusing on that member for the next song. This resulted in making that particular performance more interesting and fun.

MD Pen

There’s an awesome little store in the West Village called Mxyplyzyk that I like to visit when I’m in New York. Similar in name to Mr. Mxyzptlk, the Superman villain, this store sells bits for the home like lamps and tables that are fun and functional - a toothbrush holder shaped like a giant molar figured into the last visit, and a coffee mug that looks eerily like a disposable coffee cup tempts me every time. On this visit, though, I saw a pen that I couldn’t resist.
