MD Pen

There’s an awesome little store in the West Village called Mxyplyzyk that I like to visit when I’m in New York. Similar in name to Mr. Mxyzptlk, the Superman villain, this store sells bits for the home like lamps and tables that are fun and functional - a toothbrush holder shaped like a giant molar figured into the last visit, and a coffee mug that looks eerily like a disposable coffee cup tempts me every time. On this visit, though, I saw a pen that I couldn’t resist.

The pen is called the Troika MD Pen, and it set me back $18. It’s a simple ballpoint pen, neither clickable nor capped, so you’re not going to be carrying it in a pocket. The other drawback is that it’s not particularly comfortable to write with for long periods of time, so it’s really suited to jotting quick notes. It is nice and heavy, though, so it would make a great paperweight for telephone messages or market lists - though it was clearly designed to sit on the desk of some painfully hip doctor, ready to scrawl out prescriptions.

Below is a shot of the box it came in, and a shot of it in my hand for scale.
