I really like crazy clocks. Something about having a clock, and making you think and engage yourself before knowing what time it is seems like fun to me. Sure, you’ll probably get used to the new clock reading method, but at least no one else will.
The Shinshoku watch uses a series of segmented LEDs to tell you the time. LEDs in one section tell you the hour, LEDs in another section indicate 15, 30, and 45 past the hour, and the final set of LEDs give you the extra minutes past that. The watch can come with either all the same color LEDs (in which case you have to relly on etchings on the watch to tell what the LEDs mean), or mutli-colored LEDs in which the colors correspond to a given section (red for hour, green for 15,30,45, and yellow for the rest). The watch also comes with a black rim, or clear rim(in which case you see the underlying metal).
I particularly like the emphasis on 15 minute time chunks. Really, when I tell the time, that’s all I’m looking for 90% of the time. Unfortunately, while I really like the styling and the functionality, I’m not sure I’d put one of these on my wrist. To be honest, it looks too much like a bracelet. But then again, I’m not really a watch wearer in the first place. I think I’d rather buy the watch and fashion a stand for it on my desk.
