unfold!

We’ve mentioned Working Class Heroes before, but I wanted to take a closer look at their Unfold laptop bag now that it’s officially out and we’re not limited to a meager preview. Their laptop sleeves are beautiful, and come with a host of different options to choose from, but the bag only comes in one versatile flavor.

Make no mistake: this is a nice bag. Leather and canvas construction will provide years of service; the appearance will only get better with age. But it’s really the function I wanted to look at - the hook of this bag is that you can fold it in half, making it more like a traditional messenger bag that can accommodate a 13 inch MacBook; you can also use it unfolded to carry a 17 inch MacBook Pro. One side is leather and the other canvas, so you can also vary the appearance depending on which side is facing out, though I’m not sure how much sense it makes to show the canvas side: the construction is such that you won’t have easy access to the pockets. This could be a plus for commuters on public transit, though, as this would prevent snoopy passengers from poking around in your stuff. The magnetic closure at the top of the bag makes getting in and out easy, but I tend to be wary of magnetic fields anywhere near my computer or wallet - but I’m probably paranoid. In the end I like this bag a lot, but I’m holding out for a black one to go with the rest of my stuff.
