Manfrotto Modo Pocket Tripod

Wow, this little thing is SOOOO cool. I’ll be honest, I never really understood table tripods. I mean, they only get you a couple inches off of the surface you’re shooting from, why not just shoot with the camera sitting directly on the surface? If I need the extra height, I just find whatever is lying around and fashion a stand to prop the camera on. That being said, if I had to buy a table tripod it would, without a doubt, be this one. While the Monfrotto Modo Pocket Tripod isn’t really a tripod since it contacts the table at 4 places, it’d still be my choice.

The Bogen/Manfrotto Modo Pocket Tabletop Tripod is an ultra compact tabletop camera support that folds up completely flat. It is designed to provide support to any point & shoot style camera that features the universal 1/4″-20 tripod thread, both centered and off-centered. When not in use, the Modo Pocket folds up flat underneath the camera, and can stay attached to it at all times.

I love how this little thing is able to fold up, and be small enough to put on your keychain! I also think it’s incredibly techie looking when it’s folded up (in a good way). Very cool, I want one, and I don’t even like table tripods! Not being a user of table tripods to begin with, I’m basing my judgement solely on the looks and folding capability. I’m not sure what you sacrifice by going with a stand like this versus a true table tripod which has three legs and a gimbal at the top. I guess you’d miss out on some extra height, and some possible compound roll and tilt angles, but how often do you do that anyways? And seriously, i’ve never seen anything to support a camera that fold up so small.

You can pick one up from B&H Photo for a cool $29.95.
