NTT DoCoMo gets fragrance phone serviceI am green with envy when it comes to the Japanese and their cellular devices. One of these days I’m going to flip on the news and see them zooming to work on hoverboards all nonchalantly, like they’ve had it for years. This time they’re not breaking any data speed records or showing off any TV equipped phones. No, that’s old hat for the land of the rising sun. This time, their phones are making smells.

Apparently, NTT DoCoMo is testing a device that contains a set of base smells and uses those to mix smells indicated to it by phone via infrared. It’s kinda like a printer but it can make you think cookies are in the room. What’s even crazier is that NTT already introed something like this in 2005, but for homes. In 2005, my phone still had an external antenna. My, how times have changed.

Imagine, instead of having a ringtone, you could have a ringsmell. Imagine, instead of making everyone in the vicinty gnash their teeth to the beat of T-Pain’s latest hit everytime your girlfriends have gossip to share, you could please them with the smell of waffles.

Waffles!
