I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about this thing. What I do know, is that this video demonstrates a working “plasma speaker“. Instead of using a cone to vibrate the air and make noise like a normal speaker, these devices use a plasma arc to excite the air and make music. Theoretically, these speakers could outperform regular old cone speakers as they have no mass and no mechanical moving parts to limit their performance. This method of sound production isn’t particularly good at playing bass notes, but with some development maybe they could become the best tweeters available. This guy has built one and, from what I gathered in the comments, is working on a kit. I’m working on getting some more info for you guys, so look for an update and hopefully a more thorough post in a couple weeks.

In the mean time watch the video below and be amazed! Note that that arc of plasma is what is actually making the music!!
